Ronaldo ready for Gijon

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to be fit to face Sporting Gijon this weekend after he returned to training on Thursday.

Ronaldo suffered a sprained ankle in Real's feisty derby encounter with Atletico Madrid, the result of a tackle from Luis Perea, and when he failed to take part in training early in the week there were fears he would miss the game with Gijon.
But Madrid confirmed on their website on Thursday: "Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined the squad in this morning's training session in preparation for Saturday's match against Sporting Gijon.''
Ronaldo's team-mate Xabi Alonso refused to condemn Perea's tackle, which came in a game Real won 4-1 and saw Ronaldo twice on the scoresheet.
"Perea's tackle was hard but luckily not as serious as it could have been," Alonso said. "We accept that football is a contact sport, sometimes you get it, sometimes you give it."
Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho is set for another stint on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury at training.
Carvalho has played just eight games for Los Merengues this season after a troublesome back problem kept him out for five weeks. The 33-year-old last played in a Champions League clash against Ajax on September 27, and the club confirmed via their official website that the defender has now strained ligaments in his right knee, putting him in serious doubt for the Clasico against Barcelona on December 10.
