Zamorano: Ronaldo a true phenomenon

Former Real Madrid star Ivan Zamorano has labelled Cristiano Ronaldo "a true phenomenon" after watching the Portuguese forward overtake his tally of 101 goals for Los Blancos.

A hat-trick in Sunday's 7-1 thrashing of Osasuna saw Ronaldo move up to 103 goals in 106 appearances for Real since he moved to the club from Manchester United in 2009.
His astonishing return has been achieved in just over two years, while Zamorano's total was built up over four seasons at the Bernabeu between 1992 and 1996.
Zamorano only tasted modest success with Real, winning one La Liga title, a Copa del Rey crown and one Spanish Supercopa during his time at the club and it has been a similar story for Ronaldo thus far.
But the Chile legend feels that the 2008 World Player of the Year can make all the difference for Real this season, as Jose Mourinho's side look to end Barca's three-year monopoly on the Primera Division title.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is a true phenomenon," Zamorano told Real's official website. "He is one step ahead of many players and Real Madrid are benefiting from his presence.
"He is making a real difference with his goals. It isn't easy to have such a great run for so long. He is also more altruistic, which is essential to a striker and his team."
Zamorano, 44, added that he felt Ronaldo's headed goals against Osasuna were reminiscent of himself in his mid-1990s pomp.
"His headers against Osasuna reminded me of mine," Zamorano said. "His jump was fantastic. His power and his skill at heading the ball prove he is an all-rounder and that he'll continue to bring much joy to Madridismo."
