THE COUNTRY INDONESIA

Indonesia is located in South-East-Asia. Indonesia is made up of many islands, the main ones are Sumatra, Java, Borneo (also known as "Kalimantan" in Indonesia), Sulawesi, and New Guinea. Indonesia’s capital city is Jakarta. In total, Indonesia has an area of 1,904,569 km2. Indonesia also borders (physically) Timor-Leste, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. Indonesia was previously colonized by the Dutch, but declared independence on 17 August 1945.

Indonesia is located on the edges of three different tectonic plates, the Australian, Eurasian and the Pacific plates. This means that there are a lot of earthquakes on the islands as the three plates are pushing against each other. This also makes Indonesia a place with lots of Volcanoes too. This is also why there are so many islands.

Indonesia has a similar weather climate to Vietnam. There are two main seasons, the dry season and the rainy season. How the weather is, depends though on the region, some areas will have a drought in the dry season and a flood during the rainy season, while in other regions the difference will be very slight. There the average temperature there is 28C at coastal regions whilst at mountainous regions it’s normally around 26C.

Gamelan originates from Indonesia. There are 2 main types of Gamelan, Balinese and Javanese. The difference between the two is mainly that Balinese Gamelan Tempo is faster than Javanese. The other difference is that some instruments have some slight differences, e.g. on the Balinese metallophones, the metal is thicker than on the Javanese.
